Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

I've posted shots before from this disgusting beach near the Westgate. Its only 10 minutes from where I work - so its a good place to walk at lunchtime with the camera.

All shot with the 10-20 Sigma, high saturation and warm white balance set in camera on the D70s.

Shot-wise they are nice and colourful and have good composition... however I think you should send them to the dude that runs the clean up australia campaign or somewhere, that's just wrong.

To be honest with you, this series of work is probably the weakest compared to the previous pics you've put up for critique. It's a difficult subject to photograph and make interesting, but maybe try revisiting the area and see what else you can photograph.

I quite like the style you have Pharmer and I can see where your influences have come from judging by your links on Flickr.

I really like the composition of these shots and, technically, they're spot on but, to me, the high saturation seems to lend a kiddy-like, carnival atmosphere to a rather nasty scene. I think the opposite effect, i.e. a draining of the colour, may have had more impact. Just the weird way I look at things, I suppose.

Thanks for your thoughts :)

For interest, I replaced the shoe image with a desaturated version of the original

The comparison between colours of the images is quite startling.

Wow, makes quite a difference. Not something I thought of, but I think it's better that way (desaturated).

That's much more like the mood I would expect, Barrie. In the original images, I half expected The Wiggles to come bounding in and start singing a "clean-up' song.

The shots would also lend themselves really well to a stark, grainy black and white, something like the way Matt K does some of his street stuff or Sheila's PPing of some of her homeless images.
