I was at balls head a few days ago and had a bit of a play with the kit lens and the 70-200. These are the photoshopped products. Critiques are welcomed.

Edit: hmmm if I right click and view I can see them. Maybe it's the hyphen in the file name?

It's working for me as well. Even the broken links worked when I right-clicked.

Now it's working. Love the first shot Nito. Where is this and what have you done to the image in PP? Very effective PP in the second shot too.

Andrew, My PS skills are not very great its very basic.

I darkened the inside of the cabin and the background behind the door.

Slightly increased the levels for the exterior of the cabin and increased the saturation to all of the image.

The location is balls head, which is a short walk from waverton station. Great view of sydney. I would like to take a tripod there and shoot the cityscape on sundown.

The first is an interesting shot - like the colours. I really like the bridge treatment - looks like an ink drawing.

Wouldn't the city be in a sou'-easterly direction from Balls Head? If so, a sunrise shot in summer would probably work better than a sunset shot.

Good point, but I am not a early morning person.

macka, yeah the white background with the bridge is heaps better than the original colour version.

I suspect the SmugMug problem has to do with the size of your original image uploaded to SmugMug. When uploaded, SmugMug creates a small, medium and large size version if the image exceeds their standard size for each of these. Their Large seems to be around the 800 px mark. I suspect your originals were too. In which case SmugMug makes your original image the Large image. If the gallery has Show Originals disabled then this also disables the large image (since it's also the original). No problem for you while you are logged in, but if not logged in it won't show. As an experiment, go to http://nito.smugmug.com/photos/65381839-M.jpg then click logout. While logged out, click the L (for large) below the image. I'm guessing you'll see the image page, but it will have no image. Solution? Make your originals bigger (eg >900) or else enable viewing of originals. FWIW I've mulled over this for a while and my SmugMug "originals" are downsized versions at 1500 px and I've set Show originals on for all my galleries.

Now to the images:

I really like the colours in the first one and think it works well compositionally. #2 is just too white for me even though I like the concept.

I clicked on the link when logged out of smug and its all okay. It works whether big or medium. I dont show originals in the public gallery. The original are full size 3000x2000. I can download then fine.

Nito - love the conversion of the people on the bridge - would be a fantastic print with a white mat, in a very plain black frame

Thanks stormy, a black frame would really suit the shot.

I've made it a point to make a yearly book print to see how my photography skills have advanced. It will go in my 2006 book of favourite shots, with a black border. The 2006 book looks already much better than 2005.
