Different takes on Beach Landsapes

Last series, I was a busy boy this weekend for a change :) Here is a set of three images taken at sunrise this morning using the 12-24 and slightly different takes and treatments.
The first was taken with a little on-board fill flash to add light to some shadows near the log before enough light was available, perhaps a little overlit.
Image
In the second one I liked the curving shape formed by the foam of the advancing breaks as they moved up over a little sand ridge.
Image
In the third I liked the log and again the foaming wave advance, it seemed to folow the line of the log and the curve of the beach. I liked the way it leads the eye around the cove.
Image
In all I was trying to continue with the low, get the nether regions wet by the advancing waves, perspective.
All were handheld.
Which do you prefer?
Comments in general and critiques always valued. :)
cheers

#1 for me, although the light behind the log looks false i still like the added colour of the tree trunk standing out from the green trees and matching in with the log.

Thanks for the comments Bob and Shane.
Bob actually I'm at Palm cove (South of Ellis Beach) facing South toward Clifton Beach if that helps to orientate you.
Shane the shadow was actually that shape and tone(weird as it did seem)as you can see from the third shot. One of the reasons that attracted me to shooting the log and the beach in the first place. :)

actually what i should have said was the light on the back of the actual log itself looks false.
with the shape of the shadow from the sun i would expect the back of the log to be darker.

:D

I like the comp and subject of the 3rd best but probably would have liked a bit more on the bottom of the frame.

You guys have really been getting the storms and rains as of late up there, good to see you are able to get free from that and take some great shots.

Thanks for the comment LD. Yes when I was PPing I looked and thought the same thing with the third shot wishing I had taken a little more of the foreground in particular the full depression left in the sand by the tip of the log that would have acted like an introduction into the scene.

I like the lighting of number 1, but the angle of the wood in number 3.

For me, number 1 has to many vertical lines.

#1 is almost right, but as you said there's too much light on the log (doesn't match the shadow). I also think the green foliage is a little over saturated. ALl that said, I still think this is a great image.

#2 - Perfect - excellent composition too - the mountainous skyline in the distance and the moody clouds make this image

#3 - this one is problematic for me. The image is great, but I flick between the quite dominant log and the breathtaking scene it sits inside. I think therein lies my problem. If it's an image of the log (which it is) then the scene probably needs to be tighter on the log somehow.

gorgeous shooting low with foreground interest shows matured compositional skills something evident in your macro work
I like the tonality as well
where was it shot?

Nice work Marco. Nos 2 & # do it for me. :D In the first the log gets lost in the foam line. Nice colours accentuated by the time of day.

Thank you Padey (I see your point about the more pleasing angle of the foreground interest log in #3), william I enjoyed snapping the series off before the light was gone.
Thanks for the detailed comments Stubbsy, I agree with comments on the third image but i overestimated the scene stealing power of the log given the focal length used and the perspective I chose.
Wendell thank you for the kind comment. The images were taken at Palm Cove North of Cairns.
Thanks for your comments John. In #1 I tried to have the foam, the wave and the log all leading the eye up and around the beach head. Took ages for the right wave and wave break around the log to get the sort of shot I wanted. Damn nearly got a cramp in the legs and wet 'jewels' waiting for the opportunity. So on that score I'm pleased with this one. :)
