Matt, definitely tawny frogmouths. Great capture. These birds do appear "stuffed" during the day, but are very active at night. I get them in my backyard from time to time.

My uncle had another name for them I think it was Mopokes would they be the same as tawny frogmouths? LOZ

LOZ : Yep, they are also called Mopokes, especially by the older generation.
Matt : Just thought you would like to know that Tawny Frogmouths aren't actually owls but are in the Nightjar family.

we had one of these things in the yard the night I found the kittens. I was wondering if it was planning on carrying one off
