The ANZAC day march was an excellent event for some first attempts at portrait/candid photography!

#2 is a photojournalism classic!
If there's only 1 thing I can fault, it's the Hi-Vis vest just under the flag (but it's not like you could do much about it :D )

#1 - strong colour and appropriate DOF.

Are these from your new 70-200?

The bugger kept taking shots of me all morning!!!

It was a great experience this morning, but I didn't have many keepers due to the low light and shaky hands - not even VR helped...

Here are my best efforts:

This old digger was quite surprised that I'd want to take a photo of him, but posed nevertheless...

Les West and his friends - waiting for the off!!

This poor guy was freezing his nuts off, but he managed a smile...

This one's a little soft, but I had to include it... He was having a ball!!!

Russell

2 great shots in 1 and 2. In #1 I'd also think a tight recrop on the face of the man on the right will yield a very interesting image too.

#3 - what can I say - mugging for the camera as per usual

John

These images are bloody good and trully capture the spirit of the day. Not a big fan of #2 though.

Thanks Peter, It's the first time I've been to a march in Australia and it was very touching... #2 - what can I say - I had a little chat with Les & his friends - they'd been waiting for over an hour for their chance to march, but were still smiling & joking... I thought this photo summed up his spirit...

More photos from the morning here

P.S. Russell, As I've already told you your #2 is brilliant... Might be worth cloning out that vest as daniel suggested... #1 is great too, but I too would like to see a crop of the right hand side...
