Cute Duckling

A few duckling shots I took while holidaying at Merry Beach on the South Coast.

#1 is the clear winner here, the 2nd best duck shot I've seen here, only beaten by Firsty's Duck in a Cage from the Easter Show. I like the crop and the contrast between the fluffy duck and the green green grass.
#2 Is a bit to conveniental for me.. a duck and water.. (doesn't hold my interest).

I actually didn't mind the first version - would be great as a stock photo, leaving plenty of room for advertising blurb or text. Either one works but, for me, the duckling looking away from the space appeals because it breaks the rules.

Your first shot of the duckling is a beauty. Yes, normally the 'rule' of bird photography is to leave room in the direction the bird is facing. In this case, however, it seems to work well.
I agree with Simon in that the room on the left would be good for advertisers etc.

I was interested to see which of the two crops was the better. I like the first one too as it doesn't follow the 'rules'.
