For the sunset fans

I do love a good sunset. Here are two images of the same sunset taken with different lenses to create two very different perspectives. Both taken near Noumea in New Caledonia.

Click on an image for a larger pic

The first image was taken with D2H and 50mm 1.4f. The colour was adjusted to give a richer red/orange hue. There was a bit of a smoke haze on the horizon due to a fire which added a little bit of extra colour. The cloud bank gave the sky something ominous looking to fill out the image.
Image

The second was taken with D2H and Sigma 12-24mm at 12 mm and only two minutes after the first. I played with only the blue channel to accentuate the white clouds against the sky. It seems to emphasize the clouds rather than the sunset. I tried to keep the focus on the cloudbank rather than the sun which is why it is a bit offset and not 'neat-and-in-the-middle'.

Critiques, good or bad, are always welcome.

Fan-bloody-tastic Steve.

I like them both but the first would be huge and on my wall.

Magnificent. (I'm so pleased Mr Howard sends you off on all these lovely photo treks...)

Fantastic texture and mood in that sky, for me I just keep going back to the second image with those terrific clouds stretching above you, the WA distortion has worked a treat here...

Fantastic Steve!

The colours in #1 are brilliant, but in terms of perspective and mood, #2 is a clear winner! Love it, well caught!
