Problem Images

I've finished PP on the best of my images from the weekend and have two problematic images. I'd be interested in comments, criticism and help with these.

This first one lacked drama because it was too sharp. I've applied a motion blur to all but the boat and its wake, but it just doesn't work for me.

And in this one, I'm not sure if it works because you only see a bit of the boat. It looks somehow fake to me.

#1 looks great to my eyes.

#2 Doesn't do anything for me (probably for the reason you said)

Stubbsy, sorry mate but I am with you. Neither of them are doing it for me and I don't have any suggestions for improvement.

On #1 have you tried a motion blur the opposite way? By that I mean inverting the motion blur so your emphasising the boat in movement, rather than the background.
I have not seen the original so perhaps the B/G is blurry anyway (as you said the shot was not sharp) and you have no way of changing it. If not it might be worth a try.

In the 2nd one.....damn, if only if the boat had taken a sharp right hand turn, wow then it would have been the shot you wanted
I like the 2nd one better although I understand your disappointment.

PS the boat out of the second one, cut and paste the chopper and move it into the wash of the boat! WOW wouldn't that be a great shot! :)

Peter,

Often we have to accept that not all images are keepers. Too often on my case.

But I think that the fact is that neither of these actually works as you might want them to, for whatever reason. The other shots you posted were very good... so c'est la vie.

Thanks all for your suggestions and comments. At the end of the day I think I'll go with Gary's comment above and bin these.

Sadly the F1 powerboats are in Newcastle on 12th June and I'm going to be in Mudgee.

Browsing with my daughter at the moment (almost 3yo)

comment on pic 1 : "Wow! That's a fast boat."

So figure the image is working in that demographic...
