After a 20 minute drive, 40 minute bushwalk, scaring off a wombat and nearly tripping over in the dark I arrived at a place called Drawing Room Rocks, located near Berry on the south coast of NSW, with the purpose of catching the sunlight highlighting the mountain in the distance. Unfortunately there was a bit of cloud and although the sun broke through the clouds stopped the light from hitting it completely. Here are a couple of images from the shoot.

Firstly the main scene I was trying to capture - I'll have to head back again. (looks like I have over-sharpened it quite a bit)

Second, I saw this beam of light and thought I could reduce the exposure in order to capture it lighting up the house. (I'm aware it is very dark, but this is what I wanted to capture)

Thirdly, Tried to isolate this tree with one of the 'tables' that gives the place its name. Also in the background you can see Coolangatta mountain.

Lastly I saw this scene as I got back to the car.

Owen when I saw the title of the thread I thought that you might have been having continence problems :lol:

That looks like a very interesting place and one I have never heard of. Whilst I did not find any of the shots a standout they do give a very good feel of what the place is like. Look forward to seeing more

looks like you had fun, great shots, i really like number 3 the composition and the tones compliment each other.

what lens did u used on n1?

You make getting old sound so enticing!

I agree that none of the shots are standouts, I was just trying some different things as I couldnt' get the shot that I wanted. I will head back there soon and hopefully the sun behaves itself this time.

1 and 2 were taken with the kit lens 18-70mm. The other two were taken with the 50mm 1.8 lens. Tripod was used for the first two.

Nice shots, I like #2 best, the light on the houses works well with the dark moody light on the mountains, to get these shots you have to be in the right place at the right time, not always easy.

I have heard of these rocks, a mate from Cullburra Beach has been there, we planned to go there to take some shots but were advised by Nat Parks that access had been cut off by a private land owner, has this now changed?

Those (table) rocks look like chain sawed tree stumps :shock:

I must admit also that I've not heard of this place? But will
now have to visit.

Hi Rick.

I believe that they took it off the maps because things like these cause people to trip and sue

Also people were getting lost easily:

Seriously, it has 'disappeared' from maps because a lot of people were cutting through private property thinking that is where the trail went, and the owner was worried about insurance and stuff. That's all fenced off now and there's a sign pointing in the right direction... it's just finding your way to that point which is the difficult thing to do. If anyone wants directions feel free to PM me. The track is a bit overgrown but it's still fairly easy to find your way through.

I too like Chris like all the shots. In particular #1,2 and 3. They have that wilderness feel. Nice work Owen

Interesting work Owen, personally I like #1 and #2

I have always like the formations of the tables, fascinating and you capturred well.

The beam of light in #2 is something I have always wanted...I'm jealous now :!:

Nope, not a clue, have seen them in areas of the Blue Mtns and just find fascinating. Interesting as it is like a crust or cap protecting the rock below.

Lovely shots Owen. My fav is #3. Looks so real -yet unreal - looks something like a bonsai has been overlaid on the scenery.

Image #3 is a masterpiece! Frame it and exhibit it. It will make your reputation. First image is also outstanding. Keep it up and you will knock Ansell Adams off his overrated pedestal. Beautiful work....art.

Thanks again for the terrific comments. You are only furthering to encourage me to get out about and take more shots! I just printed off the third image on my little i320 and it turned out more monochrome than the PC image which has a slight colouring to it... still I like it I think mainly because of the sharpness in the tree
