Hi, I've been looking around here for a couple of weeks since buying my D50 trying to absorb as much information as I possibly can.
I thought I may as well jump in the deep end and put a photo up so I can learn from taking advice on my own images rather than anybody elses.

This was taken walking around the garden this afternoon, I'm not quite sure what I like about, but I do like it.

Thankyou Rob.

Hey Rob,
thats a great start.
The composition and colours work well.
And good use of DoF.
Keep up the good work.

Rob,

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

Yes, I like the fungi shot too. As Marty said, good composition (rather than right in the middle) and nice use of depth of field. Only suggestion I would make is to try using a diffused flash and put a few reflectors either side to add a bit more lighting.

Cheers

Michael

First off thanks for the welcome and all the comments, I appreciate it.

I used the 70-300 f/4-f5.6G, which came as lens #2 in the twin lens kit, at 190mm 4.8

As I have no external flash at the moment, and due to the fact I'm just a beginner, I'm currently trying to get the basics first before I try to complicate things by throwing in a flash as well.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, Rob.

Welcome to the forums and sorry about your wallet :) (You'll know what I mean after you've been here a while)

Great first post. I really like this image. Kinda looks like the small mushroom(??) is cuddling up to the large one, looking for protection :)

Welcome Rob, hope you enjoy it here. Interesting image, not sure of the effect you were going for, but the mushroom could be a little sharper. You can do that with supplied software or less desirably in camera
