A photo of a fly, with a flower for added interest. Taken with the 70 - 300g. This is a pretty heavy crop.

Craig, I have to be honest with you this shot and the bee for me don't really work (for me) and I think for some part you are being let down by the lens choice (or lack thereof). I've tried on a few occasions to do closeup/ macro style work with the 70-300G it aint fun or easy most the time and the results weren't flash either but in the end I stopped trying and the lens and I just couldn't get the results I was after.

Not being the photographer in this case, I'm not sure if this is the result you were after or how close to the result the shots are, but for me niether of them acheive what I'd have been trying to do in them.

As a flower shot it just seems a smidge to "busy" for me, didn't notice the fly until I looked deeper...

As a flower shot, maybe if you used a slight vignette affect to centre the viewers attention on the flower itself? Hmmm, wonder if it might be worth a try to also slightly de-sat within the vignette also to help the strong color of the flower stand out more against the greenery? Just rambling :)

Craig your right. I was shooting all of the various flowers in the garden so I had a catalogue. These fellows just happened to be there at the time and I was wondering if the photos worked. I have not been happy with any of the shots, of variuos types, I have taken with the 70 - 300, but I have seen some good results from others. Iam thinking of a Sigma 180 the same as Mark (Slider) has as I do like macro work.

When I work out how to use photoshop I will give it a try.

Thanks for your honest comments guys.
