Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Taken on a dark and moody day in Melbourne a few days back.

Lit the front with the flash. Levels adjusted and some USM

Image

Now added wider crop version (cloned out tree on right hand side that made me crop the first image)

Have you cropped the pic? The reed on the right that has been cropped is giving me the irrits. Other than that, top pic again ;)

Very good........ but have a look at the image with about a 1/3 cropped off the bottom.......

Originally cropped it to obscure a tree on the right hand side. Took care of that in the second one.

Great shot Barrie and excellent use of flash. I'm leaning towards the original, perhaps with just a little of the dark area at the bottom of frame removed. Either way they both look good :D

Nice Barrie, reminds me of last week's POW with the golden landscape and dark clouds behind it, although this time its the flash that has given it some colour.

your ant view perspective rocks but what is more interesting is the brooding storm and the colour contrast achieved all traits of your distinctive stle of photography

i do similar things with my 12-24dx the minal focus distance of that lens is quite short and at 12mm you can achieve whacky perspectives

Love the first image. Perspective, colur contrast both contribute well to the theme of the shot. Wish I took it :P

Hi barrie,
I really like what you've done with the second image but I would prefer it with the original version. I think that the dark areas in the bottom tend to balance the the dark clouds on top giving a sort of natural vignette.

Love the colours & lighting in the first one. The golden glow of the foreground contrasts beautifully with the sky.

I also love the colours of the first shot, but IMHO it is just that "branch" on the right that has been cut off that distracts it a little for me.

Terrific images. Cropped one is compositionally the stronger but with a little less saturation IMO. Tone and saturation somewhere between #1 and #2. Visually very striking images Barrie. :)

I have to say I prefer the first image with more of the 'leaves' at the bottom! The second one is great too, but I feel having seen the original, something is missing! The brooding sky is amazing, great work.

Love the colours in #2 they really sing out

I am so amazed at what people take photographs of and how well they turn out.If i saw someone taking a close up shot of some grass stalks a year or so ago and bending over in a paddock to zoom right in on a fly or bug or something i would have been certain they needed some sort of mental assistance,but i am continually and pleasantly surprised at how different people "see" things in different perspectives and how well they portray their images on here CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL
