Be brutal.

I've been playing with some of the test images I took with my new D2x today. Tell me if these work for you (or not  ). The first 3 shots were taken with the 24-120 VR. Click a pic for a larger version.

And just so you don't think I've totally lost my marbles - a more standard shot.
This one taken with the 10.5 DX fisheye, and partially defished using DxO Optics Pro

Hi Peter,

you certainly got around town today, didn't you?

The first one, I like the composition and the fact that you took the time to ask the name of the guy in the small boat. Not sure on the colours, what filter did you use?

Second one doesn't do too much for me in b&w.

I like you FE one of the Hunter Water building, colours come out really nice and the partially de-fished effect works very nicely,

Cheers,

André

The colours look a little odd in #1... but it's a good capture - I really wouldn't want to be in the little boat...
#2 - I'd love to see a portrait orientation with the yacht in the left hand third of the image... Given the resolution of the D2x, that should still leave lots of power in the clouds...

Something like this... but better...

Hey Peter,
Number 2 and 3 are great, but I am partial to b/w.
Number 2 is just a bit blown in the clouds and I cant quite decide on the central compostion of the yacht.
Good stuff, and a great new camera.

André, John, Marty - Thanks for your input.

André - #1 had a Nik Color Efex pastel filter applied. Below is a more "standard" treatment.

John - I tried your suggestion (see below). This is almost the full size image as I'd already done a big crop to get what I posted

Marty - I go through B & W phases, but these two images just seemed to work best with that treatment.

wonder what filter you used on the first but seems to have a magenta cast to me.

my favourite is the fisheye job.

Peter - forget filters. I was going to post a reply that the first pic appeared to have an awful colour cast until I saw the repost - now #1 is a real nice pic.

Hi Peter,

looking forward to your exquisite work, now with the D2X (envy ...)

Your photos:

No 1: I actually like the pastell tones.

No 2: I'd probably crop the image in a different way, like this:

Image

No 3: did you sharpen it a little (), it looks as if there are white contours orund the tower.

No 4: I like a lot. Nice perspective, beautiful colours, classic composition.

HTH,
CD

p.s.: thanks for your comments on the "B in the B"

Peter... number 2 with your modified crop would be my pick. A nice classic composition with some powerful cloud formation and contrasty shoreline.

The first doesn't hold much interest to me, and I don't think that the pastel treatment helps. The third is a pretty standard gothic style treatment... quite nice but nothing new. The forth is just yet another building to me... nothing wrong with the photo but nothing I'd spend time with either.

Michael.
