Had been playing with the usual long-exposure-of-waves-breaking shots when I spotted the feather in some windrift.
A little re-arrangement and I got a shot I'm somewhat happy with.

Cokin P121 grey grad G2 to control the sky.

Couldn't work out why I was getting a double image.
Wasn't until after the birds had flapped off that I realised I'd left the *&^%!! P121 sitting halfway across the lens.
Recovered reasonably well in post, but it's a web-only image dammit.

Gee, I really like the way you've seen and captured these, they show a good eye...

#1 A very interesting abstract, stark and lone subject, I like

#2, I love the moodiness and foreboding(?) scene, nicely exposed too... Pano crop suits it well...

#3, Great timing, they appear to be communicating... Tempted to crop off the black rock going along the bottom maybe? Dunno...

I love the 2nd one. Almost bermuda triangle type look about it. Well done.

G'day Keith. I really like all 3 images. Is the first a crop or full frame? I'd like to see what it looks like with the feather over to the LHS rather than the right.

Seriously tho', I never figured this one'd have mass appeal, some'll like it, most won't.

Part of the reason I like it is purely intellectual, the image holds all four 'alchemical elements' - air (the feather), earth (the sand), fire (the reflected sunset), water (ummm... the water!). I'm not into that stuff, but I've wanted an image that does that for ages.

Damn, that indian brave comment will haunt me for life now, d'you mind if I steal it?

- tried that during post, but didn't like it so much. It left the image 'open' at the bottom and it felt a little unbalanced. Just a difference in our personal tastes I guess.

- full frame. A dozen or so candidates from the sequence had the feather over to the LHS, but the water/wind had shaken the feather too much (1/10s exposure) so they were unusable
It goes that way sometimes - I preferred the LHS composition too, but they *all* failed.

Thanks all for your thoughts - I've been lurking for a while and been impressed by the friendly feel around here, nice to see it extends to newcomers too.

Interesting how we all have different views. For me #1 is the pick. I like the simplicity of the composition and the contrast between the sharp detail of the feather and the soft water. This capture is a credit to your eye for the detail of a shot. #2 comes close and you've used the filter to great effect. #3 does nothing for me - not enough to enagge me and the rock dominates too much.

I liked #1......*chuckles* after that brave comment, I'm thinking a half a snorkel sticking out next to it would rock as well.

#2 really works for me. Love it

1st shot is my fav. only thing in focus is the feather.
