Had a great time last night on the shoot with everyone.
Big thanks to Trieu for letting me on "the secret spot" - an excellent viewpoint. I realise this shot is almost a direct copy, but you know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery.
This was my first time taking night shots with a tripod and as I don't usually do this type of thing I would appreciate C&C on this. The moire on the steps is a bit distracting, does it distract too much?
Cheers

Matt - bloody brilliant. The different perspective is (in my opinion) what makes this shot! Well done!

Great shot. I have never seen this angle on the OH and SHB. It is a long time since I have been there, trying to work out where you shot from,it looks elevated.

Matt,
for a first attempt this is great. If it's the standard we can expect from here on in, I look forward to seeing your future work!
I don't find the moiré overly intrusive. I've found previously that trying different RAW conversion apps can have an impact on how moiré is rendered - some have more aggressive reduction algorithms. Might be worth a try.

Love it, makes me want to get down there and go wild alas I have to work tonight, I have some shots of a day from that spot and it gives a really great perspective that is a little different to the norm.

Matt
Bloody goos shot and great use of the "Trieu spot"
My only niggle is I'd like it a bit darker to give a little more moodiness, but hey, what would I know. The moire doesn't bother me.

That spot is certainly thowing up some great images, this one included. I assume you used a 10-20 or something on this Matt. I was stretched a bit when I was there with my kit lens, just not wide enough. I would have tried Trieu's 10-20 but I didn't have a big enough hammer to force the canon mount to mate with my d70. I thought I had all the wide angle I needed

, oh well something extra for santa to bring me.
Cheers

The "Trieu Spot"
I do the like the sound of that BUT.... I cannot take all the credit, I was shown this top secret location by O1, biggie up to O1.
Rokkstar aka Matt/Andrew Agassi - Awesome shot, I'll never get bored of looking at my home town

Does the moire disappear if you enlarge the image on your screen?

No i was actually using my kit lens too. I was crying out for something wider to get all of the OH in as well.
Matt, the moire does disappear when the image is full sized.
Peter, I've actually made it a bit lighter on purpose, trying to regain a little of that blue in the sky but I think all I've done is make the noise worse. There also seems to be some horizontal bands in the sky and I'm not sure whether that is an artifact of my PP or not. Perhaps I pushed the levels too much.
Many thanks for all your comments people.

That suggests that it will not be visible on a print. It is an interference pattern between the frequency of lines in the image and the monitor. It's when the moire doesn't disappear when you enlarge the image that it really is moire. (Wasn't there a well know Italian song called.."That's amoire".

You can find an explanation of moire as it pertains to photography
here Stephen. And a non photographic related explanation
