Hi, not a bird (those with feathers) guy so don't know what this one is called. They are very common, just wanted to test out the lens I was using. Unfortunately, shutter speed (1/500) was not fast enough to freeze its head motion :-(.

Thanks

Hi Alex - action shot makes it a bit hard, but I think its an immature little pied cormorant - Phalacrocorax melanoleucos :) (Only other bird it could be is the black faced cormorant, but I honestly can't tell from this photo). Someone else may be able to tell the dif for you.

Thanks, Rel. Obviously, you have encyclopedic knowledge of species :-)

the head is moving just a tad but agree with Rel's ID

you probably knew this anyway but in case not, you often see these types of birds sitting like this cos their wings arent waterproof and they hang em out to dry.

Thanks, Steve. I figured it was drying its wings.
