Hi Bob, nice shots. On #2 his face looks crystal sharp put is his wing OOF? Could this have been fixed using a larger DOF? I am interested to know as I am having the same issues if that is the case.

Mate its a question of balance in the avaiable light.

These birds don't sit still so you have to compromise

i.e. motion blur vs DOF in a situation like this at 400mm

You can up the ISO higher and or use flash I guess.
