I was lucky enough to stumble upon the 'graveyard' of some of Sydneys older trains.
Here are a couple of images from the inside of a 'red rattler' just in case you forgot what they were like.

Arrhhhhhhhh those were the days.

Just as a side comment do both of these have "noise" or was it an intentional type of effect you were after?

Those days....were hot, sweaty amd smelly....!!!
Not the best way to travel.
I did add about 2% of noise in PP, as they looked too clean..!!!

Can I ask where you 'stumbled' upon these beasts, and how illegal it might have been (I would love to go and take some shots in there )

Rooboy, I just saw a big open gate and walked through, so technically I guess it is legal. I dont know exactly where it is. I actually parked in Newtown and just wandered round the backstreets looking for interesting subjects. I will go back again soon and get the full adress for you.
Hey Jethro, it sucked travelling on these trains in the summer, especially rush hour on business days, I occasionally got off before my stop because it was too hot and smelly inside.
And Dug, never travelled on those trains. In this compound there is a very old carriage, a sleeper style, which contains a shower, kitchen and lots of beds. It was a bit eery walking though as there were traces of dero's living inside. I have some shots of the carriage to post soon.

Marty #2 leaves me cold compositionally, but #1 is superb.

They used to have old red carriages that came out as far as Bathurst on Friday and Saturday nights. I vaguely remember them, but I think they stopped in the mid eighties. My brother in law used to catch them to Sydney and go out on the piss, then travel home (3 hours each way...)

I really like number 1 by the way, I like the adds on the wall, gives it an abandoned feeling. Great!

Sorry Marty. Meant the composition doesn't evoke a visceral response in me which is how I believe all great images should. Here I find the framing through the green window too instrusive and distracts me from the interior - rather than drawing me into the image it acts as a barrier. Interestingly the "through a window" shot you had POTW with a few weeks back was the opposite effect (and I liked it). When I do let my eye wander in I then get whacked in the right eye with the angular side of the stairs to the upper level which again stops me dead in my visual tracks.

Interestingly if I cover up the RHS of the image like would happen with a crop so the image stops a little to the right of the rightmost window it's a really different vibe for me (makes it look a bit like the windows are eyes). And no I haven't ingested anything pharmaceutical

Seriously though Mate, I really appreciate your feedback, I am very impressed on the way you look at an image, and what you 'feel' from that image, far more than I ever do even with my own images.
I tried the crop you suggested, and I totally agree, the two windows could be eyes. I am sure when I return I could compose the shot better, using the two windows as eyes and not including the stairway.

I really like the first one Marty another great location for shooting and the low angle really suits.

First shot is excellent. Spooky. The low POV was perfect.

love that #1 shot, this angle really gives a bug's eye view of decay. #2 looks too busy for me by comparison, I find it hard to find a focus point despite it being framed by the window. Love the location though.
