This is Dougal, our half blind moggie - this is his "good" eye. Taken with my 300 f/4L IS plus Canon 500D filter (which I bought from Oneputt awhile back) - at f/4.

Comments and critique welcome as always.

Interesting shot. I dont really know if I like it or not.

I think it might be the narrow DOF that is disturbing me.

also not sure if I like this or not.

I think it would probably work front on, or maybe 45 degrees. side on though.....

I think it works a treat! I'm not a cat lover but this shot shows originality, great use of DOF, colour and exposure. No distracting backgrounds and to me gives a tird person perspective of watching the stalker at work.

Both millimetres that are in focus are very sharp

I think I'd prefer a portrait version so that the whole face is included.

I've come back to this picture a few times now and i still dont know if i like it or not.
The shallow DOF is a little too much for me i think, none the less its still a great picture.
Where its sharp its VERY sharp.

I can never get my cat to sit still long enough to get a decent shot off, maybe i should throw her in the freezer for 5mins or so to slow her down a bit.

Thanks all. My biggest problem was to get Dougal to keep still so I could actually focus my 300 plus the close up filter. For anyone who has experience with close up filters, the focusing has to be sooooo exact! Then an ant came to the rescue. Dougal has limited vision but he can see an ant at a 100 paces - with his good eye!

Both our cats are very photogenic but I do tire of taking shots full frontal, as it where :) For this shot, I thought the absolute shallow DOF would add more interest to a shot would could be ho hum.

Cheers
Sheila
