excellent subject choice for this excercise Sheila
i love creamy bokeh

shot at f1.4 on the Nikkor 85mm f1.4
the blur at the forefront is not dof it's a blurred out garment in front of her face

That just doesn't work at all like that, Wendell.

Wendell - the bokeh behind the model on the left (as you look at her) is certainly creamy - the OOF blur of the material is quite distracting unfortunately.

My word Steve, that pin head is an extremely extremely shallow DOF. Just a tiny sliver. Excellent shot. The second is great too, colours are lovely, but you're gonna have to choose one as your entry I'm afraid  .

Like that shot a lot Wendell looks like it was taken in a low sun lit field after a concert in 1969 (bring back free love).

Damnit. Why didn't I get to live when there was free love?

These days it costs too much.

Even "cheap" love would be something ;)

Ahhh... will have to break out the 50/1.8 for this one I reckon.

There is a story to this HD. I thought it was a kaputt but it was the enclosure that was no good.

Excellent choice Sheila (and not at all like the topics you mentioned to me)... I'll have a go at this one... probably with my 80-400VR & Close-ups... you can't get much shallower than that

I finally managed to get some spare time to put a ES worthy entry in. Had a bit of fun getting the lighting right :)

A 85/1.4 would have been a treat for this!.
Both from 50/1.4 @ f/2

Hi I am new here, just got a d70s on the weekend.
A friend pointed me in the direction of these forums to learn some tips.

Welcome to the forum. Perhaps you can take another with a much shallower depth of field.

Ah some people's brains work faster than mine. Here is a shallow DOF of my housemate's Hyundai Excel's automatic label on the front quarter panel (yes, it's an automatic!)

This is kind of Selective Focus rather than DOF but i think it works for the theme anyway - how else can you shoot shallow DOF at f16?!

F16

Nice! I'll pay that. Very different interpretation to the obvious.

Cheers hash..just realised the coincidence of shooting the number 16 at f16 as well!! Of course that was planned from the very beginning!!

And consequently, your DOF is huge (as opposed to extremely shallow) - all the way from the trees to the clouds

Cheers
Steffen.

Here's one from last evening. The DOF isn't really extreme (this was taken at 85mm f/4) but pretty small:

finally got around to thinking up something to shoot ...
during the week i bought 3 second hand extension tubes with a Pentax F50/1.4 [for $99.00] and wanted to try it out so i added three other extension tube i had to the combo and shot this one dollar coin at f1.4

the eyes have it ...

Nice one Big Red. It is impressive how much detail a coin has close up - mainly scratches. Have you tried to mount the Pentax 50mm in reverse?

Nice work coming in folks. I am glad I picked something which forced you all to think outside the envelope.

Sheila et al,
I have a few things in mind for the July ES just can't decide which one to go with at the moment. I guess it will be decided at some ungodly hour on Saturday morning on my way to work
