How could I improve this shot...???

Just a shot I took earlier in the thunder storm.
I sort of like it as is, but would appreciate any advice to impove the shot.
I have only just started using NC, so any advice would be great.

Try a simple way by run Digital DEE on NC (Tool Palette 1).

Marty, the shot has a lot of potential - I think it needs to be lighter to bring out more detail. Perhaps a curve would be the way to go so you don't sacrifice contrast.

Marty - look to your curves and bring your right hand reference point across to the left to see a difference. There are lots of tweaking that can be done. Duplicate the original and work on the duplicate.

I like the original photo a lot, but it is very dark and may not appeal to everyone.
Well done Phillipb!
Just goes to show you that almost any photograph has the potential to be enhanced.

Hey guys,
thanks for all the advice.
I was looking for the 'darker' look image when I took it.
It was taken outside, I diffused the flash with white paper.
I was hoping to lighten the image just a little but still keep the feel.
I will try adjusting the curves.
Is there any info anywhere giving advice on how to adjust in NC. or do I just experiment..??

In NC you can edit the curves from the tool Palette 1, right at the top.

it needs to retain the darkness because when you bring out the brightness there are blown areas on the face
here is my go
what i did was just a quick tweak but included
colour balance
curves
levels
saturation
brightness
contrast
sharpening
crop
if i was really trying i would selct the face and improve the warming effect slightly as well as "piant in" sharpening around the eye's and features
it also looks good in B&W this is just a greyscale conversion but you could get it to look pretty nice
