Which of these crops works, or are both of them fairly weak ? Sadly I only had the kit lens with me to try and capture these young locals having fun.

Craig,

I think the second works although it might be a little too narrow.
The rocks? in the foreground of one distract my eye a little too much.

Thanks Matt, the rocks are actually floats from a fishing net I thought in the first shot they might add foreground interest ? Perhaps just foreground distraction, and you are probably right about the second I've made it too narrow in the instance.

Craig, I agree, the 2nd crop works best.
BUT, what were you doing walking around with just kit lens and no 10-20 or 80-200 :?:
The 80-200 in particular could have captured some good facial expressions.
Cheers
John

Yeah, I'm with Matt on this one. Second is better, though perhaps you could just crop the first one JUST above the fishing net floats.

It was me sneaking the camera and kit lens on to a "deserted island" which was meant to be lazy around and relax time. Trust me most the time I was well prepared with all my kit on hand :)
