Looks like a Kookaburra in a tree to me  But a nice shot all the same. :D

Didn't even need anyone to tell me what bird that was

I immediately started humming "Laugh, Kookburra laugh, ...

That's a great shot, good seperation from the background and terrific detail, nice and sharp and composition's good too, which is hard with bird stuff... This is a good one... :)

Tricky little vixen you
Lovely bokeh rel. Background colour really enhances the portrait I would however suggest pulling back just a tad on exposure (on the bird) IMO the bird is a little overexposed
cheers

Nice shot!!!

I took some closeups of kookas at the wildlife park last week.. and spent an age struggling with the areas of sunlight/shade..

Should have just slapped on the SB800 and used fill flash!!! d'oh!

Thank you everyone - Birdy, high praise from you :)

Yep - fill flashed the buggery out of it ;) 80-200, with the SB600, beer cup and contraceptive cap...... that cup and cap combination is fantastic for those of you who haven't tried it yet.

Mark - tell the truth - you asked finch what the bird was didn't you ;)

Hugs everyone

Interesting....does the contraceptive cap have to be in new status :?: Or is it depending how soft a flash you desire :?: :?:

If you use soft flash it falls off, you gotta use HARD light....

Nice pic Rel, that must be some contraption hanging off your camera. Do you have to go into the chemists and say, "No, really, they are for my camera..."

Have to got a photo of your setup?

Sorry Raskill - kind of an in-house joke - the beer cup is the Gary Fong Lightsphere 2, and the contraceptive cap is the opaque snap on internal dome :) Just my sick sense of humour - recommend it though - bloody brilliant system :)
