I have a new toy. My husband bought me an epson Photo RX650 which not only prints photos beautifully, but also scans directly from photos, slides or negatives. I picked out two photos to scan from old holidays to see how it goes. Both photos taken with my old Pentax SLR with a Pentax 35-105mm lens. Can't tell you the exif (too long ago).

The first is one of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The second is one of Russell Falls in Tasmania. I have a poster size of this photo framed on the wall in my lounge room. I still seem to spend plenty of time staring into it. Especially during that first morning cup of coffee. My favourite part of this photo are the shadows in the bottom left that kinda look like a star wars character is standing in the water. Do you see it?

Anyway, happy with the scanning quality. What do you think?

Did you scan from the photo print or the negative?
Just shows to go you that the old Pentax was excellent all those years ago.
Now you are into the scanning bug, how many thousands of old photos/slides/negatives have you got to scan?

These two were scanned from photos. I'll have a go at negatives next.
Oh no  I have boxes - that's of the photos. Then I have hundreds of slides as well. If I was going to scan them all, then I'd never take another photo.

Suzanne - fantastic scans !!!!

And I can see the character - the one I'm thinking of was in the original star wars movie, and was in the bar when the weird band were playing and obi-1-konobi, Luke and I think it was Harrison Fords character walked in.....

did that make sense??????

Use the force guys, use the force ;)

Scan the negatives and slides - if you still have them - A whole new world opens for you.
:D
I've been told by a wholesaler of Epsom scanners that the dedicated transperancy and negative film scanner manufacturers such as KM and Nikon have given up production of these dedicated units now that Epson have got so good at overall flatbed scanning technique.
Epson V700 or V750 on the shopping list.

I haven't ever seen that first shot before - simply a fantastic shot, the DOF is amazing as the entire image seems sharp :). Excellent framing too.

I know that the 2nd shot works from the enormous print on the wall - a testament to the resolution of film over digital.
