Subject says it all. Taken this afternoon.
This shot is of Newcastle Ocean Baths submerged under the waves. The railing you can just see in the front left are steps that lead down into the baths. The foreground is a (usually dry) 2 metre concrete area around the baths. The sea in the distance is usually a metre below the edge of the baths marked by the diving board & second set of railings.
This is a small children's wading pol next to the baths. The chain fence usually has about a 1/2 metre drop to sea level.
The setting sun was poking through a hole in the clouds and hitting the waves in the centre. I'm a bit ambivalent about the end result though.
And this last one is what I saw when I turned around to check out the sunset:

And again. What I said before.
Great sunset tones in the last pic.
Crikey, you're raising the bar this week, Peter Stubbs.

Ripper captures here Stubbsy. #2 of the wading pool speak loudest to me. I like the contrast of the posts versus the swell.

Excellent Peter, to be honest I'm captivated by the power and size of the surf and the shots feel so real I feel like I'm there! Well done.

They're beautiful!
Same as huge waves around the headland at BH late afternoon yesterday.
Sorry Raskill,

Very nice Peter, i am glad you are putting that D2x to good use mate and these pics are just great. Always good to capture something that is not the normal such as some big waves like this. Well not something you would maybe see there everyday.

Peter,
two and four are great. As you say, the third is not quite there, my guess is timing just a bit too late.
great photos.
Good thing you now have the D2X with its rugged body, you can take it surfing

Thanks for your comments. I think #3 can go in the bin and the others are keepers. While there taking these shots the young lady standing next to me asked if she could buy a photo from me (sight unseen). Never had that happen before - must be because I now have a D2x

Great waves captured, Peter!
Just bit hard to justify how really big those waves ... Next time you have to throw something (or someone ) to the water to give us an idea about their size

Mikhail
I agree about the sense of scale. The shot below was taken the next day when the waves were about half the size in my shots above:

Holy moley!!!! That first shot is the winner here. Gives you an idea of how rough the seas were that day. Love the colours and saturation Peter.
I guess that bloke's in a convenient place if he crapped himself from seeing the wave come towards him...
