I have no idea what I was thinking this morning.... I had my metering set to matrix (bad idea) and my shutter speed was way too low (1/60) so I didn't get many keepers... Thought these turned out OK though.

All taken with D2X, 500f4, 1.4x TC, SB800, Better Beamer

Shame about his tail!
Image

A bit noisey as I had to push ISO400 (shouldn't have used Matrix)

Same as above

I think he was cold?... Can anyone confirm the ID?

Love the last 2. Very sharp indeed. The colour of the sky on the last one looks great.

The 'sky' is actually the side of a building ('The Rocks' at Mornington pier for those playing at home :))

Nice shots, Paul, despite your misgivings.

I haven't got my bird book with me but I'm pretty sure the last one is a bronzewing. The spots on the others lead me to think they're starlings or similar but I'm only guessing.

Well done.

The last one appeals to me the most. I like the soft colours.

you have even made the starlings look good.

the last one is a cold looking spotted turtle dove. fairly common around here.
even have a pair nesting in our backyard although where they are nesting doesnt allow photos

Paul,

The third pic is the best by a country mile, in my opinion. Great capture.

Cheers

You don't find it too busy? That was my first thought when I saw it.

Paul,

That fact that the bird has ruffled feathers, very sharp, looking at camera etc makes the image very strong. Busy background doesn't bother me at all.
