Nice skin tones & exposure for flash shots, Gary.

The violin player looks somewhat detached in #1, but the trumpeter appears to be gettin' it on.

Gary, that 24-120 is so soft I can only just count the hairs on the trumpet players head

I think the problem with #1 is that the lady may be too intensely involved to look like she's into her music.

Both however are wonderfully exposed, nice skin tones. If I was being picky I'd say the lady has a hot spot on her forehead and the man has a reflection on his glasses, but I'm not being picky so I won't say it.

Flash was set at -0.7, and Peter (the guy playing the horn) was in almost total darkness.

In both cases the players were well into playing and not focussing on anything else at all.

I'm no at all concerned about the two hotspots as, in a dark bar, getting any sort of a shot is a bonus.

Glen, yes, and in the full crops, such items as rosin dust on the violin are also evident.

Great shots. Just being me I'd like to see a bit of motion blur on the fiddler's bow. Maybe rear curtain sync worth a go? On the other hand this might turn it into a horrible mess.

Same band, playing Latin Salsa jazz. That's one of the beauties of a jam: you get all sorts turning up and offering their unique contributions.

Big V: any live performance venue is a difficult lighting situation. In this case it's also an historic venue, as the room is one of Sydney's oldest jazz rooms, but no longer in its former guise.

And here's a sad indictment of our times: as I said, this is a very old jazz room. And it's in Kings Cross. In the old days, musos would come here after their gigs and jam to all hours of the morning. Today, this venue stops the music at around 11 or 11:30 because of neighbourhood issues.

In Kings bloody Cross? One block from the Coca Cola sign.

F@#king yuppies!!!! A mate of mine owns the Hopetoun Hotel, which has been the crucible of independant rock in Sydney for decades and the number of hoops he's had to jump through to keep residents happy is ridiculous. Of course, those that whinge loudest are the newest residents in the area. Do some f@#cking homework before you move in!!! I wish a pox on them all. <end rant>
