These are two shots of the same window.
One shot from outside and one from inside.
The inside shot was under natural light in very dark conditions.
I intentionally kept this image dark, as that was the shooting condition.
The cable through the window links both shots.

I absolutely love the cable linking the two images together. The treatment is first rate and my eye feels like running around the image finding all the interesting elements to look at.

I think the last shot really does it for me, excellent lighting and when you pair it with the first image, it becomes quite powerful.

Great idea about the cable linking. But I didnt notice it on #1 before reading about it...

Did you put the cable through or it was there already?

Number two does it for me, I can almost see a ghost or skeleton sitting by the window.
The image of a ghostly old woman knitting as time just passes by.

I need a drink.

second image...it's mysterious....only thing is the blown highlight in the window but that said it's an excellent exposure for such extreme lighting conditions

Just a few answers.
I didn't put the cable through the window, luckily State Rail had left it there for me, it was a power cable of some sort.
I am also a bit unhappy with the blown window, but if I exposed for the window the rest of the room would be black. And being a lazy photographer it was too much effort to get my flash out of my backpack. Plus I did want to keep the very dark look of the room.
Today at this location the police arrived and watched me closely for a while, I just ignored them and kept on shooting, after all the gates were open and the 'keep out' signs were old and faded so badly I couldn't read them.

I knew someone would pipe-up with "blown highlight in the window"!

There's nothing wrong with blowing highlights. As long as you are aware of it and it doesn't have a detrimental effect - which IMO it doesn't.

In actual fact, if there was detail thru the window i think your attention would be drawn away from the haunting interior.

But it was dull and raining outside sadly.

My site seriously needs an upgrade but I've been so busy for the last 8-10 months I just haven't had a chance..plus now a lot of the work I do can't be shown until after it's been used which makes it a PITA!

I love the light beams thru dust look you've mentioned and agree it would make this image zing just that little bit more - but I love it as is anyway!

Maybe as photographers we should all carry little bags of dust to throw around and make light rays?!!

Great idea about the pocketfull of dust to throw....
Not sure if that would be ethical...for a photographer.
I should have just jumped up and down, there was many years of dust in there.

Well maybe if somebody else threw the dust and I just captured the image on my camera, that would probably not be considered un-ethical.
