Ok, Im new here (and pretty new to this DSLR business). A few guys might know me from the OCAU forums. Anyhow, here is a photo I took the other night. I know it isnt a standout, but I would like some help on what I have done wrong. Rip in, I have thick skin.

Image

Camera: Canon EOS 300D Digital
Exposure: 15 sec (15)
Aperture: f/22
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV

Thanks.

Welcome. This is really nice, except for the the greenish flare dead centre. Luckily, it should be pretty easy to clone out.

Very nice image but I'm not keen on the starbursts on the lights. Did you put them on with a filter or did they occurr naturally?

Naturally. Just the UV filter on the Kit lens.

Hi. Nice pic. Im pretty new too, but I have some suggestions for you to try.
Try changing ISO to 200 = less grainy image
Dont use aperture like f/22 its too high for a digital (so ive been told)
for this kind of shot try around f/11 or so
30 sec exposure
Run the photo thru photoshop with a program like Noise Ninja to remove that grainy look in the sky in the middle and you could clone out that green lense flare in the middle. Good Luck!
Looking forward to seeing what you can come up with.

Adam

First time I've ever heard this, where did you hear it?

Great shot mate! I second the comment about the greenish flare but otherwise I like this photo very much, including the grainy sky and the starbust effect. The reflections on the water look great so I'd probably have framed it to have less sky and more water.

Was having a chat with Wendell, he said F/22 is more for film camera?

Ok Wendell, time for some explanation.

Personally I can't see any reason why this would be the case, but I could be wrong.

Light diffraction becomes an issue at f/22 (but you know...it does too on film)

For me the shot is underexposed.
If it`s a pic of the bridge you need more detail there in my opinion.
If its a pic of starburst lights and reflections it`s good.
