Tranquility - Curtis Falls

Curtis Falls is in Mt Tamborine National Park, about 50km south-east of Brisbane.

It's been dry for a long time so a lot of the dead foliage from the palms that surround the streams just hasn't washed away. The whole place could do with a really good flush out but I took advantage of some reasonable rainfall over the last few days to capture some 'moisture in motion'.

EXIF: D70, 18-70mm, 13secs@f16, ISO200, NDx8 filter.

C&C welcome.

Very nice Simon. You've managed to avoid most of the debris lying around and have got the colours spot on :D

Thanks Mark - this was actually cropped in about 30% on each side because of the muck lying about. There was a large moss-covered trunk on this side of the pool but directly behind it was a pile of debris that just drew the eye away from anything remotely 'pretty'. I tried to reposition myself on rocks in the middle of the creek but it was really slippery today and I didn't want to take any chances with the gear. This was the best compositon I could manage, though I'm far from happy with it. Hopefully next time I'll have better shoes and there'll be less people around. I don't go off-track when there are stacks of impressionable kids around as there was here today.

Yi-P: It was actually pretty chilly there today. We had lunch at the Eagle Heights Hotel which looks out across to the Gold Coast and there was a howling wind blowing through the place. Many diners stayed inside near the fire but the view is always worth braving the elements at the outside tables.

Well done Simon - hard to get decent water shots at the moment without the scene looking, well, nearly dead !!!! You did bloody well!!!!
But, you missed my 2 day deadline ;)

Thanks Craig - the chill in the air precluded me taking a dip!

Cheers, Rel. I'll do better next time...

Good effort Manta. I was there a couple of months ago and I know the challenges of this spot too; large fallen tree in the middle of the pool and lots of dead palm fronds in and around the rocks.

I thought I could have got a better shot by stepping out onto the rocks in the stream to the right of the observation deck, but I didn't want to be seen tramping around on stream bank and disturbing the ecosystem there.

My sentiments exactly, Jonas, though I don't know why we bother. A group of late-teens girls actually had to squeeze their way around the "Track Closed" sign to the left of the deck in order to clamber up under the waterfall, laughing as they went as if it was a great joke. Absolutely no respect for the natural world whatsoever. Should be banned from these sort of areas if they cant' behave themselves and look after them.

G'day mate,

Ahhh, I'm a sucker for any waterfall shot :) WB seems a little cool (water looks a little blue?), looks like a lovely spot...

I also understand what you mean about people who don't respect the environment too, while I'm one who will wander around an area trying to find a nice spot for a good composition I'm always VERY careful about where I step, trying to avoid any harm to the mosses or what-ever's living in the nooks and crannies, and always clean my boots before I go anywhere sensitive to avoid transferring any ground fungus from different areas etc...
