some more from Hair Expo backstage from Australia's hairdresser of the Year show by Brad Ngata
this model had great geisha like features perfect for my high contrast lighting technique. I photographed her with semi makeup on, gloss shine on the eyebrows and lipstick are not applied yet which I think makes this portrait a little more interesting
Image
if people were wondering how i got this look, in photoshop i increased the highlights and darkened the shadow tones using levels and desaturated the image a little to give it a slightly more sophisticated and pleasant tone

these are all shot with the 28-70 f2.8 flash on ttl with this difusser

here is youth ambassador/model for David Jones fashion Abbey Lee
i don't know what i was thinking when i asked her to model her shoe
the fashion is from Natalie Wood's quirky fashion label. I love quirky!
Image

to further emphasise this image i should of shot it wide with model in the corner to show isolation, but i shot it tight.

Wendell,

That first shot is just mesmerising. I'm no expert in portraits by any stretch but it is miles ahead of the others.

Worth a magazine cover, that one.

Cheers

Michael

Awesome stuff as usual Wendell. Love the first and last, though the last is a tad creepy with the amount of makeup on the model...

I'm with Chris: #4 is great.

As is #3.

#1 has nice detail and colour, but I don't think it's as good as the other two.

Speaking of #2 ... no, I'd rather not; it does nothing for me.

absolutely love the first pic [but it looks like hair is growing out of her ear]
it probably looks better with the minimised make up 8)

thankyou everyone

hair expo was fantastic i have to say there was more creativity in the shows compared to some of the other high fashion events like fashion week

you have to be accredited to shoot the actual premiere shows at night
but there are the details anyway for next year

http://www.hairexpoaustralia.com

The exhibion hall has many of the same hair demonstrations and shows in the 'expo' area just toned down in terms of production, i saw many of the public smash the hell out of the hair models on stage

by 'smash' i mean take lots of photos
