was out pitchatakin with the Sigma 8mm f4 fisheye when i spied a little cove which the waves were rolling into ...
I walked up to the "wet line" and looked down to set the lens ... when i looked up again .... not much i could do but press the shutter button

now i must say that this lens focusses very close so that everything from infinity to 50 mm is in focus !!

i was drenched, the camera got drenched and the camera bag got drenched

i quickly checked the pic and wiped off the water and all seems ok.
i guess it went something like this ...

did all the gear survive okay? .. and... how do you find that lens?

hahahah....I have had that happen....you do have to be very midful of the occasional rogue waves.

I do encourage anyone wanting to take seascapes to always keep one eye on the waves

I don't think I have seen the 8mm Siggy...are you pretty pleased with it

its not a very sharp lens and vignettes hugely even on a digital but it can take some fun pics and thats what i usually try and take with it.

The other pics i took with it just look too far away even though they were only a few meters away.

heres one straight from the camera and just resized.
the water was about 2 metres away.

Interesting...thanks for giving some honest opinion on the lens....it does sound fun to have a play with

What a shot!! Hard to deliberately take, I would say. Still, notwithstanding the abject horror you must have felt at your equipment being drenched, afterwards you have a very striking photo- and one that will be forever linked with the emotion you were feeling just as you took it. I hope all the gear is okay and you can laugh at it now?

Top Shot. Possibly a very expensive one though but at least you would have washed off a lot of the dust

Shane, what can i say that this shit is potw material. Well although it is not the best ways to wash your gear but i love the shot with the water heading for camera is just great.

there's nothing like looking up and seeing that wave only a split second away from hitting you and knowing that i had no time to even turn or duck ...

then the photographer section of the brain clicks in and you know you don't have time to lift the camera to your eye so you hold the camera where it is, point it towards the incoming wave, hold it as steady as you can and fire while wondering if the f stop and speed you have it set at to take a long exposure of the gentle rolling swell coming in will work for this shot
