Hi all,
I thought I'd share some photos of ART DECO Architecture.
I took these photos in my previous home town in Germany last year.
Click on image for a larger one.
Cheers,

Hi Christian,
While these are great shots, the buildings don't seem to conform to the Art Deco style that I know, love and follow...
The building in the last shot sort of approaches it, but still not quite. Maybe these are the German version of art-deco (Jugenstihl (sp?)) which I've always found to look very different...

I agree, I was there 18 months ago and noticed the same thing, same but different

Hi John,
Thanks very much for your response.
You know, well I'm not an expert.
However these buildings and other ones are in the area of the Mathildenhoehe in Darmstadt, Germany, where built during this aera.
They were were created around the ART DECO time and some are definitly placed in the Jugendstil (ART DECO ???) period.
The Mathildenhoehe is also called Kuenstlerkolonie (Colonie of artists).
Have you got some examples of your interpretaion and knowledge ?
Cheers,
CD

I thought so... I didn't mean to nitpick, and while it doesn't reflect on the qualities of your photos, I've always found Jugendstil to be very different to Art-Deco (even though the terms seem to be used interchangeably in continental Europe).
Much to my shame, I don't have any art-deco photos of my own (but will soon), but some great examples of the art-deco style would be:

Great pics CD - I too love the art deco period. The last pic smacks a little of Bauhaus. The Berlin Bauhaus museum was originally planned for Darmstadt in 1964

Thanks a lot John,
I can see a difference between Jugendstil and Art Deco.
Up untill now I believed both were the same.
Thanks for the links to the Art Deco buildings.
Cheers,
