G'day all

We wound up with seven folk turning up at Con Dock (unless I forgot someone). Not too bad for Hobart at winter's solstice (ish).

Early results from me, comments and critiques welcome:

I have to admit to favouring the 2nd shot as I have a soft spot for all things maritime as well as level horizons
The soft almost pastel tones & soft, morning light are good with plenty of depth of field, which is good here.
Suits me.

It was a good morning except it was cold and way too early for me. I didn't know the sky was pink in the morning as well

Hobart Morning


After the pink went and a cup of coffee, John D and Allison took me a place I hadn't been to before Myrtle Gully on Mt Wellington. Thanks to John and Allison for sharing that.

Had fun this morning (if shivering and being cold can be considered fun). The coffee and natter afterwards was also a great way to start the morning.

Here is one of mine, I wouldn't say I had any keepers but the company and outing was great.

Yes, had to think about the first one also (which hurt) and the second would be my pick.

Nice shots Peter, can see that you were in your element in the second one.

Not sure yet - my head crashed and I had to kip before I could look at 'em. Vaguely hopeful for the Owen's Pool shots, less so for the falls.

As Dave said, no real keepers for me, but the company was first-rate. BTW Kellie lost track of us because she found a seal in Victoria Dock.

#1 I really like the soft lighting and color/tones, almost pastels...

#2 this is the stand out for me in this bunch, I like the mooring thingy (I obviously know NUTTING about boats ) in the foreground with the boats in the background. Terrific sky...

#3, Like the concept, just wondering about maybe a shorter DOF (bigger apertue) maybe? dunno but maybe if the central subject was sharp and the others more blurred out more so they don't compete and take my eye away from the central pot thing...???

Peter, the sky in the sunrise shot is simply WOW! Like the foresty feel to the waterfall too... Tempted to maybe burn in the shadows a smidge maybe? Just seems with such even lighting that the scene is a little busy?

Looks like you guys had a great day! It's always fun when you can share a morning shoot like that, great stuff... Really enjoyed the post...

Point taken, but f2.8 is as fast as my 70 goes. Could've gone for a longer focal length and taken a few steps backwards, but that would've been one of the more ... expensive ... splashes I've ever made

hmmm, could maybe fake it in post, tho'.

Mudder thanks for the comments. I actually spent some time trying to lighten some of the shadows - maybe my monitor needs calibrating.

Dave our shots are so similar it ia amazing what 1 or 2 mins difference makes to the light. Woosh what was that? That was your life mate.

Keith hope you are getting better mate - more walks like that would do wonders.

...and Kelly and the seal I hope they live a long and rewarding life, albeit on fish and lots of clapping.

This is another one for Keith of that cliched shot !!! This was about a minute before the light went dull. The cloud that was rolling down Mt Wellington looked like a plasma flow from a volcano.

A very successful Hobart meet. Well organised Keith. It was great to meet and spend a morning with some new local photogs.
