Brighton Rock (well, beach front)

Hello All

Went down to Brighton (south coast of England) earlier this week for a seminar on Extensis Portfolio Server (fantastic software by the way, the single user version is well worth the dosh).

Seing as it was a 6 hour train ride I went the day before the seminar and booked myself into a hotel. Had a few hours to kill on the evening so as I'd taken my D70 I went on the hunt for something to photograph.

The wind was really whislting along, so didn't stay out as long as I'd like (lots of salty mist being blown up off the sea + D70 = trouble).

Here are a couple that I've pp'd, there are a few more that I like but haven't got round to looking through them properly yet. Both were taken with the 50mm 1.8f lens, first one f10 ISO400 1/500, second one f50 ISO200 1/800.

Please feel free to give it to me from both barrels!

Really like the 1st shot CC, looks grainy on my monitor but nice effect. As to salt spray effect on D70, I have spent the past 18 months wading out into the ocean photographing local surfers (coming close to disaster several times), and the D70 still purrs along without a hitch. They're pretty tough even tho' not in same class as D2x or D200.

Cheers,

Max

I added a little grain to the first one - it looked better when I did it, not so sure now!

There is a very wide path/promenade running along Brighton sea front, it was that windy a guy sped past me on a skate board using his jumper as a sail!!! I guess I was being a little over cautious, but every time I took a picture I had to wipe the fine sea spray off the lens, I didn't know if that might remove some sort of coating so bailed out pretty quick.

Ended up in the hotel bar drinking beer on the company and watchng the world cup!!

Oh Charlie,

The west pier in all it's fallen glory. I used to live near Brighton - such a great place.

I love number 2 but feel it could be givena slight contrast boost.

Feel homesick now mate.
