My new 105mm Nikon macro arrived today, thanks to Birddog, had to do a test, and would you beleive this is the only beast or bug that I could find around the house and garden, as I have a family of butcher birds that keep the house free of spiders etc...... this one will not last long......



EDIT: hand held, shot on manual, flash fill....... an old habit......will have to get out more......

Welcome to the addictive world of this lens Bernie !!!! And man, is it a sweet sweet lens.

after my shoot next week, which I will be using said lens, I will be off to the wild......... well the local duck pond, about a 2 blocks from me, to see what I can come up with and find........ if all else fails, there are always ducks to shoot.........

congrats on the new lens.

I used to have one of those.
took around a dozen shots with it and decided to see how high it would bounce when it hits steel from a distance of 1.5 metres.
Mr Maxwells are playing jigsaws with it right now.
supposedly going to be good as new but dont feel good about it.

I assume it wasn't attached to a camera ? I guess the only postive in a bad situation.

matt, no VR...... as I tend to use most of my lens in manual mode........

Macro with VR or VR with Macro?
Macro is always on manual + tripod is the VR.

I was just curious as you said it was new, weather it was the new AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED or the older model without the VR??

craig: nope, not attached to the camera but the camera caused it.

I keep the camera gear in the top shelf of a safe and whilst putting things away somehow the camera strap wrapped around the 105 micro. when I changed positions slightly, I had the body in my hand and the strap pulled the lens out. all I could do was watch it fall and get t-boned by the bottom ledge of the safe.
Time will tell whether it is the same lens upon its return.
P*ssed me off though.

Did Maxwell quote you how much? or an estimate of the bill?

birdy: the reckon a new focusing barrel. (basically the bit that was stoved in)
around $200 for the repairs. I told them to go ahead so hopefully I get it back soon.
the repair bill comes off the 300f2.8 fund.

Congrats on the new lens. Mine arrived today as well (thanks Birddog!)
It's a bit of a step up from using a 70-300 + diopters .
