Macros from Watsons

Ok, many people asked me if I had the reversing ring placed on my 50mm (cuz I had it on just to ease up changing from normal to macro) that day...

So, here they are, results from a cheap man's macro.

Wow - a different interpretation from our meet, unique!! These are stunning Yi-p. I can't choose a favourite, but you are right, the last one sure looks like an underwater plant etc. Nicely done!

I'd love to learn some of these techniques! Nice work.

For my own knowledge, is a reversing ring an alternative to a macro lens? So I could buy a 60mm micro for $600, or a reversing ring for $?
Can I get a reversing ring for a current 50/1.8? part number or manufacturer, and cost?

I assume there are cons, such as manual focus by moving? metering? etc?

THanks heaps

That is the Nikon BR2A reversal ring. Made by Nikon, from Japan... All metal construction that takes a 52mm filter of ANY lens, yes I said ANY... not only nikon mount lenses (Canon lenses are ideal.. lol j/k)

Yes it works perfectly for your current 50/1.8 (52mm filter threads).

You cannot focus, you have to move the camera/yourself around to get good focus.

No metering at all, guess your exposure there...

No aperture control, aperture is set via the aperture ring.

DARK viewfinder. You dont want a f/1.8 DOF in macro as nothing will show up in the pics... you need somewhere like f/11 at least, I used f/16 up there. And it gets DARK!
But oh well, I did my own trick to focus down with bright lights. :D

Last but not least, unprotected rear element of the lens becomes very vulnerable. I keep my cheap plastic snap on cap when using the reverse macro.

Thanks Macka,

Yes indeed this lens is very sharp for the little price charged. My best $100 spent on a lens
