One of the fig trees at Cleveland Point. I couldn't escape the harsh afternoon sun so I thought I'd try to use it to my advantage. Your opinions are very welcome.

Thanks all - it was taken around 3.00pm so that sun was really screaming at me!

Nice compo Simon...

I'm gonna have to start selecting a few of members' recent shots to hang on my wall... This would be one of them...

simon

that is a lovely hauntingly beautiful image
the tree is also a good looking tree, reminds me of a japanese bonsai tree

as a suggestion to improve it a little desaturate it a little and lighten it up

Very nice! And I love the way the tree holds its, err, branches. As if it were playing with the sun...

Cheers
Steffen.

Thanks for the positive comments folks. As soon as I saw this tree I loved it, becuae of the way the branches swept out from it. It's quite a big fellow, maybe 15m tall, but it does, as Wendell said, remind you of a Bonsai arrangement.

I was - but the 80's theme was more than I could bear for too long. All that boufed up hair, glitter and leg warmers. And that was just me...

My mind just went to an image I hope I never see

Great image Simon - simple, striking, and the exposure looks spot on for the effect, which would have been difficult to meter accurately :D

I'd love to take credit for solving such a tricky metering problem but the image is a blend of a light and dark exposures in Camera Raw. Otherwise, the only way I could have done it would be with a fair whack of fill flash. Even then, there was a lot of subject to illuminate. Much easier to do it via PS!

Interesting concept and well done :D :D 8) ...it actually appears to be an evening shot with the moon behind the branch...there are a couple of leaves with some reflection that I thought were stars :D

Thanks LD.
The leaves have quite a glossy patina so they do reflect light quite well - especially such harsh afternoon light.
