regarding the opra house i still think this is your best most elegant and beautiful image of the opera house, and it ain't no shitty house it's a monument to great vision and design

The first one is great because of the nice contrast in style and the light is good too. The foreground dome breaks the symmetry sufficiently for me.

The two building shots show good sight in the big jungle. The textures of today are very different, aren't they? I rather like the 3rd one next best as the reflections hold my attention nicely. i am intrigued by the total lack of reflection in the right hand side of the building. Was there nothing on that side of the town to reflect?

Thanks Wendell, I'd have to agree - that is one of my most inspired takes on what is one of my favourite Sydney buildings. Every time I see the SOH I'm in awe of Utzon's amazing creative vision and thankful that the politicians of the day were brave enough to build such a daringly unconventional building (imagine what it would have been like if they hadn't meddled in his grand design at all!)

Re: shitty old house - it's a little joke - Chris (sirch55) always calls it that much like birdy calls it a duck image. Of course they are both completely wrong!

Where shall I begin #1, 3 and 4 are the kind of shots that I personally like to see of Sydney. Both 1 and 4 show an eye for the unusual and really work.

I agree that the SOH and SHB are both tremendous iconic symbols of this great city - BUT they have been photographed so much that they no longer have appeal to me personally. There is so much more to this city than these two tourist attractions. One that comes to mind is the Victoria Barracks, town halls by the dozen and the Orpheum to name a few.

Echoing from Chris, and I'm also another ones, perhaps you're a Novocastrian and not seen many of its photos or seeing it by your real eyes, so it is in your preference and acted as same as the Jap or other tourist who just arrive into Australia a minute ago.

The Duck on Sydney harbour is the title of SOH as I have seen many duck shots posted here and I called it as duck.

Waiter! bring me another roast duck.

but in this case the concert hall design is aesthetically beautiful and i think it works accoustically, i once burped in the concert hall and it did not reverberate as much as i wanted it to

I take your point on #4 where I did push the blue & gold since that's what I wanted, but I think #3 is a very faithful colour rendition of the Axa building (at least on my monitor) as is the blue of the sliver of sky you can see. Are you saying it's unnaturally blue, or natural, but you'd like to see warmer tones in #3?

Yes, please bring up the warmer tone in #3.
Even if it's, it's still unnaturally blue, coz the colour rendition & reflection on the glass of the AXA building turned its colour to blueish.

They didn't use Utzon's plans for the interior architecture. After the budget had blown out by a factor of 10 or so, disagreement turned into aggravation and Utzon eventually left. The interior was finished to much cheaper and inferior designs.

About 12 years ago I saw an exhibition in the SOH that included a 3D simulation showing Utzon's original ideas for the interior architecture. Not sure whether it is still there...
