Was playing with my old manual lens, and saw smoke..... on private property belonging to a gun club. Well, what could I do? Went and had a look  Found this lovely old gum burning away and started taking some shots. Short story- caretaker turned up, I shouldn't have been there, the gun club are 'hunting ferals' (foxes) tonight, so standing around in the dark near a burning tree wasn't the smartest thing I could do.... But have made friends with the caretaker, am allowed back anytime (so long as I ring and let him know), AND I got a half decent shot of the tree :)

Thanks guys :)
Was pretty pleased with it. I realise know that if I had half a brain, I should have painted the tree with torchlight during the exposure to bring out more detail ..... but at least I know for next time ;)

Not an easy shot to capture so well - well done :D

Thanks Chris :)
Felt even harder seeing the caretaker came back for a smoke (of the cigarette kind), and waited for me to take the shot and join him and his other half. I'm a shocker taking photos at the best of times, but if someone is watching me do it, even worse !!!

There's probably a ton of the tree detail in the RAW image, Rel. Open another copy of it in PS and push the exposure, then do a composite of the two images.

Fantastic shot and a great story behind it!

Thanks for your comments Simon :) And you're right, there would be more details in the RAW file .... but I had fun playing with animated gifs instead ;) Rough (very very rough), but fun for me nonetheless LOL And now, I'm off to sleep
