Sunset at Sea

A nice quiet moment at the end of the day off the NSW north coast keeping company with HMAS Hobart. I like this one both for the colour and the nice depth of tone I got through the range. May not be able to see it too much here.
These things are not often quiet and peaceful!
I would be intereted in your thoughts.

Yep, I like this. Is it a scan?
Looks quiet and peaceful but really these ships never really sleep. Always something happening.
What year was this taken?

I think it was about 1995 or thereabouts. I was in Kanimbla on its way to refit doing a nostalgic return to the Grey Funnel Line. See the full story at http://www.sutcliffegallery.com.au/kani ... nimbla.htm

Thanks for that. 1995 I was onboard Hobart's sister ship HMAS Perth. Wonder if I can dig any old pictures up. Nothing like the digital ones of today of course. All I seemed to take then was hit and miss film shots. (Hit and miss for me anyway).

I remember standing on the flag deck trying to take pictures and everytime the long range air search radar swung overhead it shut my Minolta SLR camera down! Wonder how a moden DSLR would cope?

Great shot Col. Bet a fair few sailors who served on Hobart would love a framed copy of that on their walls.

Yes Steve, Among the last of the steam powered gunships (with missiles of course). The image was one that I was very happy with for the atmosphere it contained. Anyone who has spent any time really at sea, would appreciate that there are many very memorable moments out there.

Trying to find beauty in a subject that is not designed for it (the military) is a challenge too. :)
All the best
