Hi,

Here are a few from a recent engagement shoot. Critique away.....

Craig - I'm going to be BRUTALLY honest here...
I only like the 2nd one, for the following reasons.

The first one is a nice capture, but I think you're too far away to evoke a feeling of togetherness. I'm not sure about the OOF leaves as a 'frame' for the couple either but I can see what you were attempting.

The 2nd shot is the winner here - to me, it looks cosy, happy and loving. Eye contact with the lens and a pose which just oozes 'yep we're crazy about each other'. I'd like to see the colour version of this. It's a nice tight crop.

The 3rd one, hmmm.... is this satin steel? Not sure if it suits the image, it has a very cold feel to it and the look in the guys eyes looks very distracted, as if he saw something run past as your clicked the camera and the girl has spotted 'it' a bit after him. It doesn't feel like a relaxed kinda pose. The blown highlight between their heads is also a little distracting and it's generally a bit soft for me liking.

Thick skin intact. I love the subjectivity of photography and the variety of opinions helps me to fine tune for the masses. FWIW The couple adored the last shot, for them it had a fashion feel to it. Just shows how diverse tastes are.

I don't have the exact same shot as colour for you but here is one very similar.

I'm going to add to Geoff's comments. It appears that these are all a bit soft. I'm not sure if that was on purpose. I also notice some CA in the first shot.

What glass did you use for these shots?

I was using the 17-55mm and the 85mm 1.8

Outside of the third shot (blury) the others are quite sharpe (although it doesn't look it here). I belive alot of quality has been lost in the web resizing. The images you see are between 12 - 17k in size. I've probably been a bit harsh on my resizing, or there is a much better method. Any hints are appreciated.

Craig - of the three shots the one that strikes me most is #1. My reasoning is that it captures an intimate moment that looks unposed - a candid of togetherness.

Chris is right! The first shot shows a beautiful moment. A little closer would have been better but sometmes it pays to step back. Nicely done. The last one...I don't like his expression. He looks alarmed.

alarmed! it could be a still shot from a crimestoppers segment.

first two i like, second is my fav.
