I had a funny experience on the weekend out at Eastern Creek! I had spent 15 mins or so shooting and chatting to one of the pro photographers on Saturday arvo at turn one (John Morris, who by the way was a real champ!). We were discussing where to shoot the upcoming Formula Vee race from, he mentioned that a few years ago there was a big rollover at turn one in the Formula Vee race, but he thought this time he'd probably go and get shots of the grid. I said I'd stick around at turn one and see what happened. Guess what (click images to enlarge)?





The drama wasn't limited to Saturday though, this was at turn two on Sunday (not sure if John was at turn one, but that would have been funny ).

The rollover pics were taken with a D70 + TC17EII + 70-200 VR, and the last pic without the TC; EXIF data should be intact. Can't wait for the 5 fps of the D200.

And the best news, hopefully pics 2 and 3 of the rollover and the last pic will be published in the next issue of Motorsport News.

Trent, i am proud of you mate. LOL Well done the D70 does it again, i bet you filled the buffer and had to take finger off for a bit then hold down again? well maybe not but i had to with my Capirossi shots and other photogs were amazed when told it was the lil D70 that got the shots.

I hope you get them published and maybe earn a few bucks out of them as i did with my shots, enough to buy some studio lights.

 LOL Birdy, i bet he wishes and well if he could would be a bargin as i dont think they would pay that much but worth a try.

And not a light tent mate i am talking studio lights like Ellincrom flash heads, when i decide to get them. it was either them or a D200 but yeh well who knows, i got plenty of time.

He paid the order at a very special low price at the mini meet, and it was funded by these sources.

A D200 will be a nice addition to your collection.

First of all, thanks for all the kind comments guys! The rollover pics aren't as good as I'd like, but it was a 'right place, right time' thing. I always liked Louis Pasteur's famour quote, "Chance favours the prepared mind", and it shows in the two incidents: I was unprepared for the first one so the pics aren't that great, but I was prepared for the second one and got a much better series of pics. Something for everyone in that l suspect, you've got to be lucky, but make sure you're prepared in case luck comes your way.

Yep, late aftenoon light, hence the shadows at the left of the pics.

The numbers were up from the start of the season including Chris Alajajian back, which was good, but the racing wasn't super interesting (in terms of overtaking). Ben Clucas brained them again, with Tim Macrow and Michael Trimble closely following him but not able to really get close enough to have a go. They're beautiful cars and sound great though, I'd love to get my backside into one of them! Unfortunately they make photography look VERY cheap.

Thanks John! Oh yeah, definitely filled the buffer. The 5 fps of the D200 for 21 frames will certainly be a welcome addition. Somehow I don't think these will be worth as much as your Capirossi shot, but anything over $0 is a bonus.

Ahh yes, that tends to happen when you put a hole in the motor. I got some of the aftermath, but not very well as I was shooting from the outside of turn 2. Just one of those things I guess, if I'd been at 1 he'd have blown it at 2, I used up all my luck that weekend. Just saw your thread at OCAU, might see you out there on the weekend! OCAU meetup?
