Tom's time-out zone

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Nice shot Alex. Well captured and framed and plenty to retain the viewer.

Alex - what a fantastic shot - sharp as a tack and gorgeous eye contact !!!!! I'd kill for this shot :)
Playing with it on screen, looks fantastic as a pano with the text removed via a crop just below the 'handle'.... or even with the text removed (PS) - I kind of find the text a little distracting, but
LOVE IT :)

Great capture!

The colour and composition is fantastic in this image, and the contrast pretty much spot on.

The only thing that I find distracting is the top right of the dog - some of the highlight detail has been lost.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Rel, I might try viewing it without the text and see if it works. It is a bit destracting.

Wendell, Not much story to the shot. Went to an animal farm with my son and there he was, I took a few photos of him. Nice and patient model :-)

Daniel, Yes, it is a pity about some blown highlights on the body of the dog. That is depsite reducing exposure by -0.5EV in-camera.

Here are a couple more of the same model.

Alex, these are fantastic! So simple yet really tells a story! I particually like the first image. You can hear the dog thinking '...and what do you want?'

Great stuff!

Alex

Ignore Rel

The last image is the one. You have the dog on top and the other two below him asleep. Having the Tom's time out zone text in this differently composed shot is the icing on the cake.

Alex... ignore both of them... the second one is the pick... Tom really looks like he's in need of some time out in that one... besides, it's the only one left for me to choose.

Ah yes, That second one definitely says it all. Fits much better with the overall message. This is where you come for a snooze. Very well spotted and shot. I wouldn't change much here at all. Like Rel says though, on the first one, a crop under the handle is not bad at all.

Loved the first shot and was OK with the text. The third shot though is fantastic - like, I'm the boss here and don't interrupt me now!

Yeah, I'd say the last one has it. You don't get to wonder whether they take turns sleeping in the top spot... :D

One thing I find curious is the fake eyes on the breed of underdogs (whatever they are) , esp the black one. That's usually a defensive feature and a kind of pretend you don't often see in predators.
