In Car Photography

Hi, I've been trying to take some incar pics, below are about as good as I've been able to achieve at this stage.

The problems I have are the highly reflective nature of chrome, I'm guessing this can be overcome with white, black, or a combination or cards above it.
Another problem I am having is lighting, the small area doesn't help, I have experimented with sitting the speedlight (sb-600) in various parts of the car, arond the boot, on the back seat, bouncing off various internal surfaces.

Has anyone got any thoughts on how I could improve on these and tips for future in car shooting. I have d70s, 18-70, 50 f1.8, sb-600 available to me at the moment.

The first pic is an alright shot.

The second shot is abit too messy and at a funny angle for my liking. I'd also look at either vacuuming the boot to remove the white specs or PP them out.

Some smooth white panels around your subject and judicious use of flash should do the trick.

See here for an example of a somewhat simpler situation in terms of setting:

i'd suggest a low light approach, small iso slow shutter and a tripod. should let the available light into all of the nooks.

or, and this could be fun, full daylight and use a few bed sheets as a light tent :)

This would be a case where bracketing would be handy.

merging a few different shots for midtones and highlights.
