The first shot leaves me wondering what you were trying to capture - the surfer or the vista. The surfer looks a bit too distant to me and is lost in the whole scene.
The second one IMHO is much better. There is no ambiguity. I like this one.

kinda guy 
I always like the view and thought that the surfer could be a good highlight!! check out the nice clouds hehe. When actually the view should be secondary.
