I was in the US on holiday in June, and on the way to Las Vegas we spotted this sensational sunset in the rearview mirror heading out of the town of Pahrump. We pulled over and went all happy-snappy for a little while.
C&C more than welcome. It'll be a little while before I see a sunset this good with a camera handy, I reckon, but I want to be better prepared when it happens!

Wow - amazing colours. It almost looks fake. It would have been fantastic to see in person.

Thanks for that! The photos pretty much show what it was like - it was simply stunning. I thought only massive amounts of air pollution could get you colours like that.

VERY impressive images here. Love the colour and the bird in the first one is great. For my money, I would lose the headlights as I feel they draw the eye away. You have seen these scenes well.
NICE, NICE

The headlights would be very easy to clone out, yes... but the shots I took when there was no traffic actually looked a little plain. Might have to revisit, though, because I don't really want the car to be the focus!
obzelite yes I did try some with my 10-20 but I don't really think it worked. Mostly because we were facing the sunset, with the highway also stretching towards the sunset and the lights of the town in the background (you can vaguely see them in the second picture). What we should have done is probably driven the opposite direction (towards the sunset) where there would have been no distractions from traffic, lights of town, etc.
But we wanted to get to Vegas

The color is stunning... It's an awesome sight when mother nature really turns it on like this huh...
Hmmm, I'd be tempted to clone out the lights so they don't grab the viewer, maybe crop a little from the top just to remove the top part of blue sky, would give it a bit of a pano feel too...
Great capture with the bird in that spot, it works really well...

Very nice - colour like this is amazing when you see it, your shots are great. I like the first one, (with the bird). If it was me, I'd crop just above the car - but that's just me, it looks pretty damn good as it is!
Cheers

The sunsets in the US South can be very spectacular... I can vouch for the fact that similar sights are to be seen there without the benefit of PP...
I actually like the headlights cutting through the colour storm...

Top shots - ditto to all the comments already given here but I'd keep the headlights. I can't really see how a sense of scale could be maintained in the shots without some point of reference. With the static point, the scene becomes one of grandeur; without it, it could be merely a colourful abstract.
IMHO of course...

The car and bird really make this photo what it is, a stand out among millions of sunset shots. Congrat's!
