Another one from today's experimental shoot with the D200...
80-400VR on full zoom... 1/1000s @ f5.6 ISO 100

This kid had obviously had enough surfing for the day, and was waiting for his Dad to catch those all-important last few waves...

Hi John,

I love the shot, the colours, the composition, the focus ... :D
What PP did you apply ?

Cheers,
CD

Nice shot leek, I reckon he would of been waiting a while for his old man to come in, am I right ? Exposure and composition seem good, a slight nitpick would be I'd like to see a little more space under the kids feet but that is all.

Nice shot Leek :!:

I'm like Craig....a touch more space under the kids feet and maybe just a bit at his back would have made a bit better.

I like the depth...f5.6 works with this image well.

Hi John,
I think the composition is great. Your placement of the Kid in the frame to me seems spot on. I'm instantly lead from him to the blue ocean and then back to him and then the ocean... Any more sand IMHO would have been too much.
I like it. :)

very nice

in particular how the sea looks flattened, an effect you would get with a telelphoto

Nice shot john. The colours look wonderful. Did you use a polariser for this one?

Thanks for the positive comments so far...
I was pretty pleased with this myself (Especially considering that it was a quick snap while scouting for Ospreys at Narrabeen)....

I originally had some more sand under the boy's feet, but decided on a crop as there was an awkward division of dry & wet sand which in my opinion spoilt the composition...

Here's a wider (unprocessed) crop to show you what I was dealing with...

Image

Christian, From memory, PP was pretty normal for me - sharpen in ACR, slight curve in ACR, boosted the saturation in ACR, then I topped and tailed the R,G,B levels, played a little with Shadow / Highlights, resized and then sharpened again with USM...

Craig, You would be right - I saw the same boy wander thru the carpark with his Dad about 20 minutes later...

Hi John
I looked at this earlier but didn't reply because I would have only been echoing the views of others about the sand/feet. I'm glad that you have shown the original because I can now see why you cropped it as you did. I would have done the same.
A nice capture - I love the intensisty of colour of the sand and how well it contrasts the water.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm afraid that (given the current state of paranoia) I didn't have the courage to approach the Dad and tell him that I'd taken unsolicited photos of his son... Maybe I should've though...

John

That is a sweet shot. Wonderfully framed. That D200 certainly takes bloody good pics. If I had known t could improve my framing like this I'd have maybe not bought the D2x :)

Seriously though - if this and the other "test" shots are an example of what you can get from that camera then I can't wait to see more.

To be honest - I'm finding it much harder to drive and get consistent results from it... Still a bit wobbly, but hope to get some time to exercise my shutter finger soon...
