some more backstage portraits from a fashion show
my usual off camera flash coupled with cleanup in photoshop

notice the slight motion blur
i got that by using a much slower shutterpeed that would expose a little for the ambient light in the background and used rear sync flash to capture the model, inadvertantly the slow shutterspeed captures camera shake and is rendered as artistic blur.

Absolutely fantastic Wendell. You've aged like a good wine.

Wendell,

You're certainly starting to get there.

The second and third of these are excellent.

In the second, while the lighting is still a tad too harsh - look at the shadows from the model's left arm and on her neck - the shaping that you have applied to this image is verging upon stellar. You weren't using the softbox for this, and it suffers ever so slightly as a result.

In the third, the lighting is such that is has highlighted the texture of the model's skin beautifully. While I'd prefer that the model's eyes be looking at the camera, that they're not is not a major issue. My only minor niggle is that perhaps you could coax a little more highlight detail from the area around the model's nose where it meets her eye?

Well done.

Nice work Wendell..

2 and 4 do it for me. The only thing in no.2 that bugs me is the little "hitler" moustache created by the shadow of her nose!! Not sure how you could deal with that without an extra hand for a reflector tho!

#3 and #4 are stunning Wendell. Beautifully captured they both convey real feeling/attitude.

hey mate, the dynamics of the first makes it my fav. I shot for the first time last night in a long time without using my inflatable speedlight diffuser backstage after a gig and I sorely missed it for the harsher light the speedlight gave.

do you shoot with the speedlight at arms length or on a tripod or on a bracket?

hi

thanks people

gary agreed i should of difussed one he second portrait, models features are too strong

mark i hold the sb800 at arms length that's about 1 meter away from the model

always shoot at 28mm with the 28-70

if i had someone to hold the flash further away i could take a full length shot with marginal light falloff with tweaked settings

i like tyhe 1st one most it has a great 1920's feel to it due to the fashion, i love that period

Hi Wendell, Great shots.
I prefer the 3rd shot the most but I would have preferred to see the models complete head.
Cheers,
Mick
