I was testing some available light stuff this arvo and only managed this before he decided that the camera might be edible.
I wanted a shot of the other one also but no joy today.

quite like the light in this shot but not sure of the crop.
for me though the vertical didnt work either.

This is full frame. I intended to get a series but alas, cats being cats.....
Also when I resized and sharpened for the web, I had the original on the other monitor and
somehow felt it lost something with sharpening so posted this one which is straight out of the camera.
Opinions appreciated, particularly crop and sharpening opinions.
does the low key lighting approach do the job?

background info:
a few months ago, I posted some images of orphaned kittens and was attempting to find them a home.
this is another in the series of progress shots as they grow.

When it was suggested that I wouldnt be able to get rid of them after having bottle fed them for a few weeks,
I took little notice but those people were right,
they are still here and we are keeping them.

This is a delightful shot with perfect DOF. Nice sharp eyes, fading away at the edges of the frame. The black backlight works well too.

Great shot of that cat. Gee they were cute as kittens I can see why you still have them. I think the lighting and composition are great, in particular the cats tilted head.

Good on you for taking the time out to hand rear them. My two boys (aged 4 & 7) loved the kitten shots in the other post.

it was a very satisfying experience. I didnt even mind the 2 hour feeds I had to give them the first night. We were very concerned with the overall condition of the patchy one (now offically called patch and the grey guy is called silver) she seemed almost dead and very cold. I had decided that whatever it took, she would make it.
It only took food and warmth to make the difference and now they are normal little cats.

As for keeping them, the rabbit and mice werent too happy about it but now the rabbit accepts them.
As for the mice, one morning we came out and patch was sitting in one of the tanks just looking at them, making no efforts to grab any.

Its interesting to note the changes as they grow. initially both were the size of my palm and didnt really have teeth. they both had bright blue eyes but these are still changing colour. currently yellowish.

despite not being particularly fond of cats I am glad we kept them.

As I bet they are. Sounds like they have a really nice home now. Nice story mate.

they wont be happy with me soon, is about time for needles and fixing up.

interesting that the cat protection dudes come and collect and drop back the next day if required.
still dont think they will be happy kitties for a little while.
(i wouldnt be either if someone did that to me

Excellent shot Steve. I quite like the composition as it is, everything looks just right to me.

And good work with the kittens too.

I really like this shot Steve though I can see where you'd make improvements, given a more co-operative subject.

It is a nice picture. I am wondering how did you manage to bribe the animal to stand still while you played with the camera.

the problem wasnt so much to get him to stay still, he was pretty much just sitting there when I set up around him.

after the first shot however, he got up and walked over to the camera and it was all over
